Torsos
When I make a Torso I aim to show the human body as a landscape, at one with the land – Mother Earth personified.
To create my torsos…
- I cast a model in plaster and then I make a mould from the modified cast.
- Each ceramic sculpture is press moulded using tiny pieces of clay which I incise with different patterns before joining them together.
- The different sized clay pieces and the varied and various patterns give each torso it’s absolutely unique persona.
- They are fired in an electric kiln and then often smoke fired. (see techniques)
The torsos are made with hooks at the back so that they can be easily hung on a wall.
