Lares and Penates were Roman Family Gods and Goddesses that would travel down the generations protecting their owners from fire, illness, starvation, homelessness;  antiquity’s equivalence to home insurance.
Each family had its own set of Housegods and they were placed on a high shelf away from the floor and worshipped daily.
My House Gods are a modern take on this, and I have given each ceramic sculpture  an area of influence – be it Protecting Slippers from the Puppy or asking The God to take on the stigma of a Bad Hair Day.
They are all individually made with molochite clay and often smoke fired.
